What is an evacuation diagram?
An evacuation diagram is a standardised sign showing a simplified floor plan with marked exit routes, emergency exits, fire equipment locations (extinguishers, hose reels, hydrants), assembly areas, and emergency contact information. AS 3745 specifies the format, content and placement requirements.
Why do you need them?
AS 3745 requires evacuation diagrams to be displayed in all occupied buildings to assist occupants in locating exits and understanding evacuation procedures. They must accurately reflect the current building layout. Outdated diagrams can misdirect people during an emergency.

Each diagram must show: a simplified floor plan of the relevant level, primary and alternative exit routes, location of fire-fighting equipment, assembly area location, emergency contact numbers, a "You Are Here" indicator, and north orientation. Diagrams must be A3 minimum size and posted at key decision points.
