What is a sprinkler block plan?
A sprinkler block plan provides a simplified overview of an automatic fire sprinkler system. It identifies installation zones, valve locations, alarm valve sets, hazard classifications (OH, OHx, EH), sprinkler types deployed in each area, and the relationship between zones. It is not a design drawing — it is an operational reference document.
Why do you need one?
AS 2118 requires documentation of the sprinkler system that enables effective maintenance and emergency response. Fire brigades use the block plan to understand zone layout and locate isolating valves. Maintenance technicians use it during AS 1851 routine servicing. Certifiers and auditors reference it when assessing compliance.

The block plan should show: alarm valve set locations, zone valve positions, installation boundaries, hazard classification for each zone, sprinkler types (upright, pendent, sidewall, ESFR, etc.), pipe runs (schematic), floor level references, and any monitored connections.
